Can I afford it?
We have a wide range of models and options to choose from and we have worked with most of our clients to find a solution that fits their needs and budget. For shorter term needs, we have rental options available. If you know you need to buy, call us. We have helped lots of people get the solutions they need.
Should I buy new or used?
A stair-lift can be a big purchase and used lifts can present what looks like a “good deal” on the surface. If you decide to buy used, be smart about, have a trained technician inspect it thoroughly to en-sure that it was taken care of. Also, hire a professional to measure and install the lift so you know it will fit into your home and operate safely. If you decide to purchase a used lift, call us and we will help.
I have seen commercials where I can order one or looked at
buying one online aren’t stairlifts and providers all the same?
No, this is not the case. There are lots of wolves in sheep clothing in this industry and quality can vary greatly with online providers who sell “Direct”. Also, Unlike online businesses, if something breaks we will fix it locally. We won’t just tell you it’s broken and ship you a box of new parts and wish you luck. We have technicians on-staff that can fix most problems. Warranty work is handled by us as well.
I am pretty handy, can I install it myself?
Maybe, but we don’t recommend it. You may be quite handy, but a stairlift is a complex machine and we are often called to fix issues that compromise safety and proper operation due to installation mistakes. Our technicians have gone through extensive certification courses and training and have years of experience installing stairlifts.
I only need it for a short time while I recover, can I rent one?
Yes, call us or stop into the store to get more details.
I live in an old house, will my stairs support it?
Almost always yes, but we will make sure they do before we install or recommend anything.
Safety is our biggest concern and we will make sure your lift is safe to use.
Will it damage my floors or walls?
Most installations should not create much mess. Our technicians are tidy and will clean up after work is completed, but don’t ask them to decorate. Also, stairlifts are secured to the stair treads not the walls so even if your walls are hollow, they will not be affected.
What happens if it breaks or needs service?
We have local technicians that can come out and inspect and service the unit. Call us first as many times we can fix it over the phone.
What happens if we lose power?
No need to worry, all stairlifts supplied by AMS are operated by batteries, these re-charge when your stairlift is left on a charge point. This means your stairlift will continue to work if the power supply is interrupted for a limited number of trips. Curved stairlifts have
designated charge points whilst straight stairlifts will charge wherever they are left on the track.
How long will the installation take?
A typical straight stair case installation will take between 2-4 hours. Curved, spiral or other stair configurations can take longer but almost every job can be completed in one day.
